The Business Planning and Entrepreneurship course involves the development of Business Plans written by students in the Carroll Graduate School of Management at Boston College. The semester-long project involves consultation with professionals in an informal mentoring role who each have real-world entrepreneurial experience. The semester culminates with the submission of their Plans and a presentation competition in front of a panel of judges and student peers. It is a rigorous, exciting project that allows the Carroll School to give its students a strong foundation of business knowledge and skills in advance of the return of our graduates into industry.
The purpose of the course is three-fold:
1) Enabling students to learn the art of the possible-- how to bring business ideas from concept to fruition, and more importantly, what painstaking details are associated with the process.
2) Teaching highly motivated individuals to work as a tightly integrated team-- like real companies, the whole has to be greater than the sum of its parts. This project requires strong teamwork from start to finish.
3) Providing an overview on the basics of entrepreneurship-- this course teaches students about both Business Plan writing as well as entrepreneurial thinking and process.
Each year, some of the business ideas for this class will come from the MBA students themselves, or from individuals and companies outside of BC.
Information on the Business Planning and Entrepreneurship, and other courses in the full-time MBA curriculum, is available at: http://www.bc.edu/content/bc/schools/csom/graduate/mba/appliedlearning/corecourses/bplan.html
